Buy Right Once is run by Jarad Mitchell, a homeowner with a background in residential real estate.
When you've spent time around houses and the people buying and selling them, you see the same pattern again and again: a big purchase made in a hurry, from a sales page, that doesn't fit the house, the yard or the job. A generator that can't start the well pump. A hot tub with no circuit to plug into. A fridge that won't go through the door. This site exists to help you get the expensive things right the first time, in plain English.
We focus on purchases over about $200 for the home, yard and land: major appliances, generators, heating and cooling, water filtration, outdoor furniture, saunas, hot tubs, grills, pergolas, home gym equipment and mowers. For businesses we're adding quote requests for heavier equipment.
Jarad also runs GetARealPro.com, a guide to finding real estate agents, roofers, engineers and contractors. Many big purchases end with hiring one of those pros to install them.
Why you can trust our picks
Our recommendations are built from manufacturer specifications, warranties and sizing, and we show the numbers so you can check them. Our policy is simple: brands can't pay to be included or ranked. When a model changes, we update the page, and when a less expensive option will do the job, we tell you.
What we are, and what we aren't
