Washer and dryer buying guides
A washer and dryer pair often costs $1,200 to $3,000 or more, and the cheapest mistake to avoid is one that doesn't fit, doesn't match your hookups or won't go through the door. We'll cover washers, dryers and all-in-one washer-dryer combos.
Guides coming soon. We haven't published any guides in this section yet. We'd rather show you an empty shelf than filler. When we do, they'll follow the same editorial policy as our generator and air conditioning guides: specs from manufacturers, sources linked, no fake testing claims.
What we plan to cover
- Front-load vs top-load: capacity, water use and efficiency labels
- Electric vs gas vs heat pump dryers, and the hookup each one needs
- All-in-one washer-dryer combos: who they suit and the trade-offs in drying time
- Measuring for fit, stacking kits and delivery and haul-away
Safety note: Gas dryers need a gas line and proper venting, which is a job for a licensed installer in most areas. Electric dryers usually need a 240V outlet. Never vent a dryer with plastic or foil duct, and clean the lint path regularly.
